AM / PM ROUTINE FOR PEOPLE WITH HYPERPIGMENTATION
Hyperpigmentation can be extremely difficult to battle but there are so many reasons why this happens. It could simply be defined as the formation of excessive melanin in certain parts of your skin more especially the face.This is normally due to pregnancy, acne scars and genetics in some cases. To treat hyperpigmentation, you’ll have to find products that are made to slow down the production of excessive melanin in the affected areas.
There are so many ways to cure hyperpigmentation these days. From laser treatments, chemical peels, and lightening creams can gradually treat this issue. I believe it all sums up to the intensiveness of your problem and how much risk one is willing to take to put a stop to the issue. I know people go as far as injecting themselves with certain concoctions to get done with this common skin issue. I personally wouldn’t take that grievous step though and will absolutely not recommend anyone to do so.
When battling a skin issue, the best practice is to do your researchs, contact a dermatologist if possible and find tailored skincare products that are going to help regulate whatever issue it is you have. I have a routine that I follow religiously, I turn to switch some of the products sometimes but I always make sure I have certain products in my routine. Most acne prone skin happens to suffer from hyperpigmentation. I will recommend you find solution to the course of your acne before you tackle the aftermath (hyperpigmentation). Here goes my routine:
1. I always start with my La Roche Posay face cleanser. Both morning and evening, this is best for sensitive and oily skin.
2. I then follow up with a toner from The Ordinary, don’t ignore this step because it helps get rid of leftover oil and impurities that might be left on your face. This step also opens up your pores to get all the good stuff in. In this step, you can even exfoliate if you want.
3. The 3rd step is when all the juicy stuff starts happening, let’s serum it up. So the rule of thumb is to start with the less heavier products. Like serums, essence, acids, masks and elixir. I go with the Ordinary’s Niacinamide serum. Niacinamide is a non- hazardous substance that has brightening effect and is used to enhance skin complexion.
4. Even if you skip all the above steps, don’t forget this step. Moisturising isn’t only going to improve your skin but also stops it from getting dry, which may lead to future acne and then goes on to hyperpigmentation. So I get something that is targeted towards dark spots, scars and hyperpigmentation. What I’m using at the moment is the Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cream, I always opt for a gel based moisturiser due to my oily skin. So choose a moisturiser that works against discolouration and appropriate for your skin type. (same thing applies for my evening routine, the only thing I change is the day moisturiser to a night cream instead. I use Ole Henrisksen’s Goodnight Glow Sleeping Creme. The glow I get in the morning is very visible, thanks to this night cream.
Now that we’re done moisturising, we’ll go ahead and apply sunscreen. Now, there are so many of these in the market, so choose something that works for your skin type. However, this is also an essential step so please don’t skip this step. It protects your new skin and even the damaged skin from UV rays and the pollution of the environment
6. In these step, I’ll add a spot cream to any visible acne or spots. This dries up the spot and stops it from becoming a scar that’ll furthermore result in discolouration of the affected area. My all time favourite drying lotion is the one from Mario Bedascu. It’s the best of the best when it comes to drying lotions. * I only do this in the evenings.*
7.Be patient in finding a routine that works for your skin. Meanwhile, I’ll advise you to consistently use your products because that’s the only way you’ll see remarkable results
